Geography of Anthoor Municipality
Anthoor Municipality is located in the northern part of Kerala, within Kannur District and the Taliparamba Taluk. It became an independent municipality in 2015 and covers an area of about 24–25 km².
Location
- Situated about 6 km south of Taliparamba and 15 km north of Kannur city.
- Located on the western bank of the Valapattanam River, one of the major rivers of northern Kerala.
Physical Features
- Nearly half of the municipal boundary is formed by two rivers:
- Valapattanam River
- Kuttikkol River
- The municipality contains a mix of low-lying riverine areas, gently undulating terrain, agricultural lands, and residential settlements.
- The backwater region around Vellikkeel Eco Tourism Park is a notable natural feature and ecotourism destination.

Anthoor shares boundaries with:
- North: Taliparamba and Kurumathur
- South: Kalliasseri and Pappinisseri
- East: Mayyil, Kolachery, and Narath
- West: Kannapuram

Anthoor experiences a tropical monsoon climate typical of coastal Kerala:
- Heavy rainfall during the southwest monsoon (June–September).
- Warm and humid conditions throughout the year.
- Average temperatures generally range between 22°C and 34°C.
Human Geography
The municipality consists of 28 wards, including areas such as Parassinikkadavu, Morazha, Anthoor, and Dharmashala. The region is known for its educational institutions, riverfront settlements, temples, and growing urban development along the NH-66 corridor.
